Honored Alumnus Creates Scholarship

Jim Wunderlin and his wife

Jim Wunderlin ’68 grew up eight miles from UW-Platteville campus, one of six children whose parents were dairy farmers. His mother had been a teacher before getting married, and education was very important to his family. “Ever since grade school, I thought about where I wanted to go to college,” Jim says. “I always liked math and science and saw that many opportunities existed in engineering.”

Inspired by the Foundation staff, in 2006 Jim and his wife of 35 years, Christine, established the Wunderlin Family Scholarship and add $5,000 a year to the fund. They have also included in their estate plan a gift to UW-Platteville through a trust valued at $50,000.

Jim was the 2007 recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award and says it was the highlight of his 43-year career. He encourages others to look at the opportunities your UW-Platteville education provided for you and all the doors it opened, then give back to help provide those same opportunities to future Pioneers.
